The Alaska Arts Education Consortium (AAEC) is an affiliation of school districts, organizations and individuals committed to preparing and supporting educators so that they can teach the arts across the curriculum. Our mission is to advance teaching and learning in and through the arts across Alaska by:
Prepares and supports educators to teach the arts across the curriculum
Promotes the awareness of the importance of teaching and learning in and through the arts
Expands the opportunities to fulfill its mission through meaningful and ongoing relationships with partners,grantors, donors and alumni

“This institute has taught me that “art” – movement, creating something, songs – should be in our classrooms everyday. Integrating the concepts in the Standards will stick in our students’ heads better and invoke higher level thinking when they are participating in arts based activities.” (Participant, Sitka 2015)
This summer Alaska Arts Education Consortium is planning to hold 5 separate Arts Institutes for teachers, paras, administrators and other interested educators. Registration is now open for the 2017 Administrators Arts Academy. The event is designed for principals and district office leaders from the six New Visions Network Districts: Bering Straits School District, Copper River School District, Kodiak School District, Lower Kuskokwim School District, North Slope Borough School District, Sitka School District.

The Indigenous Arts Institute will be held on the University of Alaska Southeast campus during the second week of the inaugural UAS 2017 Summer in the Rainforest series. The theme—Indigenous Arts Embody Living History—is core to having all participants explore the uniqueness found here in the heart of the Auk K’waan.
“Through the arts they will come to recognize that individual lives create living history and will gain meaningful understanding and respect for the depth and significance of place.” (Ernestine Hayes)
The week’s activities will commence with a catamaran excursion to Berner’s Bay. For the following 5 days participants will attend workshops to investigate writing as well as visual and performing arts through formline design, song, dance, and storytelling. Personal reflection will be central to this experience as time will be provided for finalizing all projects before the last day closing event.
