The Indigenous Arts Institute will be held on the University of Alaska Southeast campus during the second week of the inaugural UAS 2017 Summer in the Rainforest series.  The theme—Indigenous Arts Embody Living History—is central to having all participants explore the uniqueness found here in the heart of the Auk K’waan.

“Through the arts they will come to recognize that individual lives create living history and will gain meaningful understanding and respect for the depth and significance of place.” (Ernestine Hayes)

The week’s activities will commence with a catamaran excursion to Berner’s Bay. For the following 5 days participants will attend workshops to investigate writing as well as visual and performing arts through formline design, song, dance, and storytelling. Personal reflection will be central to this experience as time will be provided for finalizing all projects before the last day closing event.
