AAEC is eliciting teacher-leader applications for 2019 Summer Arts Institutes. If you are an experienced teaching arts and/or culture teacher to children and adults, please read the following information.

Our 2019 Arts Institutes include:

Summer Academy at Mat-Su is a 4-day event that welcomes teachers from any district but primarily serves their staff.   The dates will be May 28-31, 2019, in Palmer. The theme of the Academy is ‘Engaging All Students’ but the title/theme of the Institute has yet to be developed.

AAEC is looking for applications from:

  • experienced arts and/or cultural experts
  • encouraging Mat-su teacher-leaders to apply

Kodiak Multicultural Arts Institute is a 5 days event that will be held from July 29-Aug 2, 2019. Teachers from Kodiak Island Borough School District as well as those from outside of Kodiak are invited. (AAEC is partnering with KIBSD.)

The Multicultural theme revolves around the educational philosophy that recognizing and honoring cultural variety will positively transform diverse classrooms. The theory and practice of multicultural education will be at the center of this institute and the arts and culture will revolve around each daily theme. Participants will explore first their own culture and then other cultures, including Alaska Native cultures, learning techniques of inclusivity in theory and practice.

AAEC is looking for applications from:

  • experienced multicultural education teachers
  • experienced arts and/or cultural experts

2019 Basic Arts Institute will be 10 days long (M-F, 2 weeks) and held either in Ketchikan or Juneau this summer.  (There are many details yet to be finalized and will be posted here once confirmed.)  The Institute will partially funded by Sealaska Hertitage through a grant entitled Amplifying our Voices on the Land. (AAEC is partnering with Sealaska Heritage and local school districts)

AAEC is looking for applications from:

  • experienced arts and/or cultural experts
  • experienced SE Alaska Native artists
