Dr. Jan “Yon” Abramovitz has been involved in arts education for over thirty years. During that time he has worked as a performing artist, a classroom teacher, and a teacher educator. Honored with both the Washington Alliance Dance Division Award as well as the Northwest Region Dance Teacher of the Year, Jan has introduced thousands of students and teachers both nationally and internationally to the classroom benefits of dance and movement. Jan was a founding member of the Oregon Arts Teacher Institute as well as the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, a nationally acclaimed high school where academics are immersed in a study of the arts. Jan’s academic studies have focused on teacher leadership in arts education and his doctoral research was in the uses of creative movement as a teaching tool in the elementary classroom. He currently teaches classroom arts integration for Lesley University as well as methods for teaching wellness and fine arts for Oregon State University.
