BA, Visual Arts
Karen Doyle has been working with children, parents, and teachers for more than 23 years. She’s currently a second grade teacher at Shaw Elementary School in Wasilla. A long time advocate for the Arts, getting children to create and appreciate good art is a passion of hers. One of the most effective ways to achieve this is to encourage and teach more educators how to present quality art instruction. Much of her recent personal professional development has focused on ways to help struggling readers find success. A connection she’s always been able to make with most of these children is through Art. Throughout her career she has noticed that many struggling readers have been exceptional artists. Being able to motivate them through the Arts has been a constant. She’s been able to combine quality Art instruction with quality reading instruction and has achieved wonderful results: stronger, more successful readers who continue to produce exceptional works of Art. Karen hopes to assist participants in finding ways to strengthen learning by integrating the Arts.
