Ed Littlefield is a freelance percussionist and educator living in Seattle, WA. He performs in many ensembles of different genres around the Northwest. As well as being a performer, Ed was the music director at Sitka High School where he taught Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Choir, Concert Choir and Guitar class. He has also been on the music faculty at the Sitka Fine Arts Camp for seven years teaching elementary music, percussion and body percussion classes.
Ed is a Tlingit Native of Southeast Alaska and is currently working on composing and arranging Native music. He has arranged several choral pieces that were commissioned by the Alaska Native Brotherhood and the Sitka High School music program. He has recently released an album combining traditional Alaskan Native music with jazz called “Walking Between Worlds”. In his workshops he incorporates the use of Tlingit as well as western classical influences to integrate music in the classroom.
Ed works hard to continue high standards in music education by giving clinics and workshops in and out of the traditional classroom around the Northwest. He is looking forward to being a part of the Alaska Arts Education Consortium’s teaching artist team.
