The AAEC Inaugural Institute is designed by Alaska Native Educators for Alaska Native Educators. This event will strive to take a deeper dive into the cultural practices, values, language and arts of the Dene, Iñupiaq, Lingít, Yup’ik, Cup’ik, Sugpiaq, Haida, Tsimshian and Unangax peoples. (Will vary with attendees and their region.) The goal is that the ’teaching team’ be diverse in heritage, cultural knowledge and arts areas. This team and AAEC will design the Institute, relying on Elders and Alaska Native cultural values to focus of the event.
During the Institute, participants will strengthen their integration of the cultural arts into their practice. This is an opportunity for Indigenous educators to gather and learn from the collective with the goal of improving their practice to be more impactful on the teaching and learning through traditional ways. Non-indigenous educators will be welcome to attend, as space is available.

I am interested in attending this event. Will there be housing available?
Hi Elizabeth–We are probably going to arrange for UAA form housing for people to sign up for. The other option is getting an airbnb house that people can share and rent back from us…
Still working on details. Thanks for asking.
