During this past summer, AAEC worked with three school districts to host Arts Institutes: In chronological order:
• Mat-su “Steppin it up with the Arts” Institute. Lead by Donna Breeden, Allison Little and Nita Rearden the 20 participants studied drama, visual art for all, and Alaska Native Arts.
• Anchorage “Arts are Exceptional” Institute. Lead by Debbie Piper, Kelley DeCleene and Lorrie Heagy the 25 participants studied Visual Arts for students with disabilities, adaptive arts and music and movement.
•Bethel Multicultural Arts Institute. Lead by Helen Mongan-Rallis, Jan Abramowitz and Nathan Shafer the 23 particpants were immersed in how to open classrooms to recognize all students and their cultures equally thus creating a community of learners. The plenaries were reinforced through movement, visual art and media arts.
