Marilyn Davidson is a long-time advocate of Arts Education and was a founding member of the Alaska Arts Education Consortium. Â AAEC congratulates Marilyn and thanks her for her years of support as an energetic proponent of the arts for all Alaskan students.

Marilyn Davidson
Born and raised in Southeastern Ohio, Marilyn Davidson is the Assistant Superintendent for the Kodiak Island Borough School District. She holds degrees in Music Education and Secondary Education as well as certification in Educational Leadership. She taught music K-12 in Missouri, Indiana and Alaska, and held administrative positions in Grand Cayman and Alaska. She has been in Kodiak since 1989.
Arts education is her calling, and she based her career on the belief that arts education is vital for every student, providing creative opportunities for learners to understand their own humanity. As a music educator, the essential questions of her classroom were: How can I express myself through music? How can I better understand others through music?
Today, Davidson offers strong support for KIBSD’s arts programs, where music and art opportunities exist across the district in both face-to-face and virtual settings. She is a major advocate for STEAM education, stressing that science, technology, engineering and mathematics will not move our culture forward without the creativity of the arts.
Davidson has been the KIBSD representative to the Kennedy Center Partners in Education program since 2000, has served on the National Advisory Committee for the program, and was nominated by the Kennedy Center for committee service with USDOE. She is a founding member of the Alaska Arts Education Consortium and has worked with the Alaska State Council on the Arts in various projects including the New Visions Project, working to reform and empower artist residencies in schools across Alaska.
